Fantastic Four Friday with John Byrne ( 2 )

Once again we have a post that came from me working on the bonus section of another post for which I needed a picture form John Byrne's iconic run on FANTASTIC FOUR and realizing that I not only had more than enough material for the next Fantastic Four Friday post but also that is has been over a year since the last instalment from this series .

Now before my longtime followers complain, I know that this is actually my fourth John Byrne FANTASTIC FOUR post but since none of them were written on a Friday they don't count as FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY posts.

Those were mostly focused on the part of John Byrne's run where Jerry Ordway - who is a great artist himself - did the inks. Anyway, I also did mention John Byrne's quasi pre - tenure on the book where he was not the writer during which he was inked by the great late Joe Sinnott.

Most people skip those issues but I always liked this part of the Fantastic Four's lore because for one, I have always been a huge John Byrne fan ( and I can't even think about how many of his comicbooks I had to sell before coming to Spain ) and secondly there is the brilliant In Search Of Galactus storyline in which the big G squares off in a donnybrook against the Sphinx who matches Galactus if not in power than at least in size.

Anyway, since the first FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH JOHN BYRNE post concentrated mostly on the team's journey into the negative zone we are going back to the very beginning of when John Byrne took over the writing reigns. As it has become a staple for new Fantastic Four artists they go up against Diablo first but we also have Johnny Storm's girlfriend Frankie Raye - who would break his heart later down the line - as well as the first appearance of Ben Grimm's favourite Aunt Petunia ( which was not how everybody pictured it ) and the obligatory visit to the Inhumans.
