A Vault of Horror Friday with Johnny Craig !

We are continuing with the Halloween themed comicbook birthdays and this is actually only my second post in honor of EC Comics´ Johnny Craig who is best known for his work on - you may have guessed it from the title - THE VAULT OF HORROR, their second best known horror comic.

As a big fan of the EC Comics I´ve done a number of posts on the subject : I did a special black and white tribute post to William Gaines in 2017 with two full stories, one by Johnny Craig and one by George Evans, in 2018 I did two posts, one for the horror books and one for the other titles EC published and I also did special spotlight posts for Jack Davis and a black and white post with the complete original artwork of the story And All Throughout The House by Johnny Craig from THE VAULT OF HORROR 35 which was featured in the TALES FROM THE CRYPT movie from 1972.

For some mysterious reason I didn´t write any EC Comics posts last year but this year I have already written another post in honor of the late William Gaines which featured stories by Johnny Craig, Graham " Ghastly "Ingels and Joe Orlando - who got his own spotlight post - as well as one in tribute to the late Bernie Krigstein with hopefully still more on the way.

Now seeing as this is my second post about Johnny Craig you might think that I could just use the old copy / paste ( as I explained in my last post it´s not as easy to use with pictures now thanks to bloggers new interface) but I didn´t write that much about him in my last post. Because it was basically just a special Christmas post with the story from VAULT OF HORROR I mentioned above ( although it DID include the complete original art ). So there are a few things about Johnny Craig I should mention here.

From EC´s classic pulp comics THE VAULT OF HORROR is the second best known horror book after TALES FROM THE CRYPT. In 1950 EC´s business manager Sol Cohen decided to change the focus of EC from Educational Comics to Entertaining Comics and due to postal regulations concerning second class mailing privileges - which were crucial for distribution - it was financially wiser to change titles, continuing the previous numbering than to drop one title and start a new one. Other companies did the same like Marvel who continued Journey Into Mystery as The Mighty Thor. So Crime Patrol became The Crypt of Terror and later Tales from the Crypt, Gunfighter became The Haunt of Fear and War Against Crime ! became The Vault of Horror with its twelfth issue. Johnny Craig was the main artist ( like on Crime SuspenStories ) and he designed the Vault Keeper.

He also did some work for other companies like Marvel where he penciled superhero comics like Iron Man issues 2, 3, 4, 14, 24 and 25 and horror books like Tower of Shadows, Chamber of Darkness, Masters of Terror  and DC where he worked on Doorway to Nightmare, House of Mystery, The Unexpected, Ghost, Mystery In Space, and also Detective Comics.

Coming back to THE VAULT OF HORROR, Johnny Craig illustrated all the covers for the entire run and was responsible for the lead story of all but issues 13 and 33. Johnny also illustrated the iconic cover for the first EC comicbook with the new trend in magazines issue 17 of TALES FROM THE CRYPT, which was still cover titled as THE CRYPT OF TERROR back then.

He also wrote all his own stories ( save two ) in THE VAULT OF HORROR, something rarely done at EC, and became editor with issue 35. William Gaines and Al Feldstein wrote almost every other story until late 1953 / early 54 when outside writers Carl Wessler and Jack Oleck were brought in.

Other contributing artists on THE VAULT OF HORROR included EC stalwarts like Al Feldstein, George Evans, Jack Kamen, Wally Wood, Graham Ingels, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Davis, Sid Check, AlWilliamson , Joe Orlando, Reed Crandall, Bernard Krigstein, Harry Harrison and not least Howard Larsen.

Now I don´t know if it was the fact that Johnny Craig was tired of always drawing ugly old hags, witches and scary monsters and he didn´t have enough seductive femme fatales in the stories. Fact is that he used his new powers as editor of THE VAULT OF HORROR to introduce a new sidekick to the old Vaultkeeper : the delightful Drusilla who was built like a pin up model. She was introduced in issue 36 but sadly the magazine only lasted until issue 40 so we only had four issues with the curvy goth lady.

As in previous spotlight posts I favored original pages of the highest quality but also tried not to break apart stories. So I opted for two stories with the most pages of original art : Fountains Of Youth from THE VAULT OF HORROR 22 and Old Man Mose from THE VAULT OF HORROR 40 with an introduction by the Vaultkeeper and Drusilla in their final appearances.

birthdays April 16th to April 25th

April 18th Chloe Bennett 28

As I mentioned we have a backlog of celebrity birthdays and it is kind of fitting that our first on April the 18th is when Chloe Bennet turned 28 since she is best known for her role of Skye / Daisy on Marvel´s Agents of S. H. I. E. L. D. Chloe is undeniably grade - a future wife material as you first fall in love with her character, then you begin to realize her hotness and it´s as early as episode three of the first season where she becomes this ultimate woman where you go : " Bathe her and bring her to me. She will make a wife AND a mistress and I think I will tame this one myself. "

Now you might think this is once again my obsession with asian women at work but that´s not it since I thought she was hot long before I found out that she is half chinese. She also is very funny which makes her my kind of dream girl although I don´t know if she´s into guys who are twice her age.

Longtime readers know asian women are my kryptonite. I don´t know what it is with asian girls that gets you extra hard - meaning instead of rock hard you´re hard enough to cut diamonds - and I don´t want to say all asian women are born prostitutes but Chloe Bennet got it in spades.

Not to sound racist but there seems to be some mysterious correlation between asian girls and extremely well shaped butts. It may be the genes or just magic but like the song says - that butt she got makes me so horny.

April 23rd Lee Majors 81

We are staying with cult tv shows as out next stop brings us to April the 23rd when Lee Majors turned 80. While he´s not as prolific on tv as he used to be and only does the occassional guest appearance on shows like Human Target and the likes he is still very popular because of his roles as Steve Austin on The Six Million Dollar Man and Colt Seavers on The Fall Guy. Some people may even remember him from Raven. As longtime readers know I watched The Fall Guy religiously so I have to mention him.

Longtime readers know that while Markie Post was practically in everything that was on tv in the 70s and 80s she became one of my ultimate sex phantasies on the show The Fall Guy which every male that was alive in the 80s remembers - and we will get to the reason why.

THERE`S SOMETHING ABOUT HEATHER THOMAS - AND HER BLUE BIKINI

But The Fall Guy didn´t just have 80s Power Girl Markie Post. they also put blonde bombshell Heather Thomas in the show right from the beginning.

She played stunt body double ( and what a body it was ) Jody and her job was to keep the male viewers hooked by providing eye candy. She was in all episodes except for an episode in the first season. Yes, fan service is not as new as some people might want you to think and Heather Thomas mainly got the part because of her absolutely amazing bikini figure. OMG !

Like most growing teenagers I watched that show religiously but the biggest part of its appeal for me were sexbombs like Heather Thomas and Markie Post who didn´t appear as often in a bikini as I would have liked.

Well, Heather Thomas did since that was her main purpose on the show butMarkie Post´s appearances in bikinis on The Fall Guy were very few.

I AM SUFFERING FROM ( MARKIE ) POST TRAUMATIC SEX SYNDROME !

Markie Post played bail bonds contractor Terri Michaels ( who replaced previous bail bonds contractor Samantha Jack played by Jo Ann Pflug ) beginning with Season 2 and at the beginning she played a minor role.

But Markie Post knew that she was destined to super stardom, so when the opportunity arose that one of the producers of the show who was a bit smitten with Markie appeared on the set she managed to set up a few meetings - just to discuss her role of course. Even though he claimed to be happily married the business meetings turned into private meetings which were then relocated to a secret no - tell motel where Markie used her relentless body and her natural ability to spread her legs better than a fillipino hooker to give the lucky guy who was hung like a horse a Kama Sutra crash course with more than the twenty three positions in a one night stand including sexual practices that are illegal in fourteen states.

After Markie had successfully dicktamed the guy six ways to Sunday during these weekend long squirt marathons he was only too eager to convince the rest of the guys in charge what a complete waste it would be to have somebody like Markie on the cast without letting her " show off what her Mama gave her " like they say Today and the rest is 80s tv history. So Markie got more involved in the stories where she stole the scene from Heather Thomas as soon as she donned a bikini ( mainly in season three ).

Coming back to Heather Thomas, thanks to her absolutely stunning 37 ( ! ) - 23 - 32 measurements and the exposure in The Fall Guy she became a famous pin up model with posters on every hormone driven boy's bedroom wall who even managed to replace Raquel Welch on the number one spot !

80s Power Girl Markie Post is probably the best known cult siren on the blog because not only have I done many re - posts of her original post .

I also keep mentioning her in other posts and her original post is in the Top Ten Posts widget that appears on every post. Since I have done so many different versions it is not so tragic that I did not do a re - post last year even though I did the last version of her cult siren entry in 2016 .
