June 27th Dan Jurgens and Jackson " Butch "  Guice

Now they have both worked on a lot of different comic books but since they were both part of the creative teams during the latter part of John Byrne´s post - Crisis Superman revamp they had to share a post in 2016.

Another topic I have neglected way too long for a blog called TALES FROM THE KRYPTONIAN is the post - Crisis relaunch of the Man of Tomorrow by John Byrne and I had hoped to rectify that situation on April the 26th which was Kerry Gamill´s 65th birthday. Especially since I finally bought the Superman - The Exile and other stories omnibus hardcover that continues with the reprints where the Man Of Steel trade paperback series left off.

I know that Kerry Gamill did a lot of work for Marvel Comics - and you can see some of that work like his brilliant issues of Powerman & Iron Fist in my very first Kerry Gamill birthday post that I wrote last year - but for me he is eternally linked to the new Superman continuum. Looking back from a time where nobody seems to get - or care - what Superman is all about it was like the golden times of Superman history for me. Because it was the time when I got fully immersed in the US comics as every new issue and series seemed to be part of a giant story - which in fact it was. The whole shebang kicked off with John Byrne´s Man of Steel mini series followed by Superman and Action Comics by John Byrne and Adventures of Superman by MarvWolfman and Jerry Ordway. Then John Byrne left but you had guys like Dan Jurgens and Ron Frenz picking up the slack so in the The Exile omnibus ( which picks up in this interim period of art team changes ) you have a literally Who´s Who of the best comic artists DC had access to with the legendary CurtSwan, GeorgePerez, Dan Jurgens, JerryOrdway, Mike Mignola, P. Craig Russell, Brett Breeding and last but not least Kerry Gamill.

July 6th John Byrne

And last but not least because Supergirl and the Legion of Super - Heroes are finally being exposed to a worldwide audience thanks to the Supergirl tv series my post on the problems in the post - Crisis DC universe because there was no more Superboy or Supergirl , my last post in the series about John Byrne´s Superman revamp and

and my last post about John Byrne which was kind of a crash course about some of the series he worked on with links to previous posts like my latest one about his run on Uncanny X - Men with Chris Claremont which

The reason why I wanted to do this post is that a lot of these original art pages have accumulated and aside from the occasional pages I post everyyearonTraci Bingham´s birthday there has not been that many posts from this period in the X - Men´s history. The reason for that is that I am still hoping to do DEATH IN COMICS - THE DEATH OF JEAN GREY and DEATH IN COMICS - THE DEATH OF JAMES HUDSON, ( I have already written the ALPHA FLIGHT PRELUDE post ) but apart from such important stories like THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA or DAYS OF FUTURE PAST there is a lot of material I have just sitting on my laptop collecting dust

I already started to write about this in my black power women spin - off post but

misinterpreting X - Men history for their own personal agenda now that Hollywood has managed to botch The Dark Phoenix Saga - for the second time I might add - there are a lot of videos where the SJWs put their own spin on it to further their own political propaganda.

The story was not about diversity or representation or emancipation or female empowerment or any of that feminist agendas that are now retroactively associated with it.

also John Byrne did not only draw the story he was also a co - writer

epic history remastered I posted part 6 because that is when John Byrne officially takes over as the writer - which shows you how long this story really went because there are five parts before this - but you should really start at the beginning so here are the links for part 1 , part 2 , part 3 , part 4 and part 5 as well as for part 7 for all those that want to continue watching this

As you can see I could write about John Byrne ad nauseum so it should not surprise you that I already wrote a lot of posts about him, too many to link them all but I want to include a few for my newer readers : the most recent ones are two birthday posts I did in 2016, one about his work at DC Comics and various independent comic companies and one with his work for Marvel Comics and two posts on Jerry Ordway who inked John Byrne on the last leg of his legendary Fantastic Four issues. The first one is a special Valentine´s Day post with the infamous issue where Alicia Masters dumped Ben for Johnny ( which went against the bro code but it was okay because that Alicia turned out to be a skrull which is a subject we will discuss in detail if I ever get to my FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH PAUL RYAN series ) and the other one about the birth of Malice who has the second best costume after the special " 4 " - shaped boobie window ( which also first appeared during the FANTASTIC FOUR run by Paul Ryan ).
