As the time between my posts gets larger and larger there are more and more comic book birthdays between which I have to choose but going through the list of creators who have had an anniversary since my last post there was only one name where I just absolutely had to do a post.

Since I put artwork from different series into last year´s Alan Davis post I am returning to one of my favorite books : EXCALIBUR. Which is easier to talk about now that Disney has finally released a few Epic Collections to replace the out of print trades that those readers who missed the series or had gaps in their collection had to rely on. For all my new readers - and those old ones who might have missed it or want to refresh their memory - I posted the entire EXCALIBUR prestige format prelude THE SWORD IS DRAWN ( including a lot of original art ) and I also wrote about their part in the INFERNO CROSSOVER , a topic to which I will probably return to in the future. Anyway, as I have already written at length about my love for EXCALIBUR I can skip that and come right to the glorious Alan Davis art.

Now usually I try to avoid posting art that has been in previous posts but I am making an exception so I can include the whole sequence between Brian Braddock a.k.a. I did however write a special edition of Flash Friday since he was the regular artist on the title after Greg LaRouque had left the title and even after his stint at penciling the book he did the covers for a while so I always associate Mike Wieringo with Wally West.

June 25th Peyo and Alex Toth
Case in point : two comic creators who are no longer with us would have had their anniversary on June the 25th - Alex Toth and Peyo - and since they both share a birthday they also shared a post in 2016 . I have to say that I read a lot more material by Peyo through his work on Natasha, Steven Strong, Johan and Peewit and his biggest success The Smurfs so he had a much bigger impact on my life ( one of the first things I learned to draw was a smurf ). Which makes it a bit strange that I still haven´t done a solo post for Peyo while I somehow assembled enough material for a black and white post for Alex Toth in 2017. I hope I can make a post on Peyo in the near future because we sometimes forget those comics that are not about super heroes or serious topics and are fun to read and full of imagination and fantastic adventures that can be enjoyed by kids and grown ups alike. New readers of the blog might want to check out my extra long post about Natascha though.

Tom DeFalco turned 69 on June the 26th and while I haven´t done a specific post on him he was the writer on a lot of my favorite comic books. He wrote one of my favorite runs on Fantastic Four with Paul Ryan ( which will become a regular feature on this blog as FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH PAUL RYAN as soon as I can find the time ), my favorite run on Thor with Ron Frenz ( during which they created the New Warriors ) especially once Eric Mastersongot to hold the hammer ( for which I already got all the material for the SOUL SHROUD SAGA lined up ) as well as on my guilty 1990s pleasure Thunderstrike. Tom also dida very enjoyable run on Spider - Man ( his first collaboration with Ron Frenz which I covered in these twoposts ) where he co - created Rose, Black Fox and Silver Sable ( longtime readers may remember that she placed third in my COMICBABE BATTLE SPIDERBABES FINALISTS ) and staying in the extended Spiderverse he wrote the magnificent Spider - Girl ( once again with Ron Frenz ) which ran for over 100 issues. Speaking of the Marvel Universe 2 he did the writing on a lot of those titles like Avengers Next ( yup, with Ron Frenz here too ), American Dream with Todd Nauck, Fantastic Five ( the first mini series with the aforementioned Paul Ryan, the second one with Ron Lim ), J2 - which was about the son of the Juggernaut - also with Ron Lim and last but not least Last Hero Standing and Last Planet Standing ( both with Pat Oliffe with whom he had started Spider - Girl ). I am a huge fan of the MC2 universe as it was a ray of sunshine during a very dark time at Marvel and I enjoyed most of these books. So there are plenty of posts where I talk about him at length and there surely´ll be more in the future.

June 30th Christopher Priest
It´s back to comic books with Christopher Priest who turns 57 and while I haven´t done a specific post for him yet I have written plenty of posts about the Black Panther and the best place to go is my post about Sal Velluto´s terrific art on Black Panther because it also includes a link to an overview of the brilliant series by Christopher Priest that I wrote back in 2012. You can find more great Sal Velluto art in the posts I did in 2016 and last month which is one of the reasons why you probably won´t see a Christopher Priest post anytime soon. Or at least not before John Byrne.
On May the 25th we had a comicbook creator trifecta starting fittingly with Sal Velluto who turned 63 since I have written the most posts for him. The first one was a lengthy post on Christopher Priest´s BLACK PANTHER run way back in 2012 followed by a quick overview of all the series Sal Velluto has worked on in 2016 ( I don´t know why it took me that long to do a follow up post ), in 2017 I covered everything I had to skip in my first post about BLACK PANTHER in a special black and white post and last year´s post was all about JUSTICE LEAGUE TASK FORCE .
We are staying with showbiz as June 30th is also the anniversary of the birth of one of Germany´s biggest entertainers, the late great Peter Alexander. And he could be quite entertaining as long as he stayed in men´s clothes. For me he always was the more charismatic, more talented and definitely more sober version of Harald Juhnke.
July 1st Dan Aykroyd 67 among whose plethora of movie credits is Trading Places where he starred opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. They also appeared together in Christmas with the Kranks. What´s even more of a coincidence is that Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the candidates of my Top Ten Movie Striptease list as is bodacious Baywatch bombshell Pamela Anderson who celebrated her 52nd birthday on July the 1st. As you can see I could write about John Byrne ad nauseum so it should not surprise you that I already wrote a lot of posts about him, too many to link them all but I want to include a few for my newer readers : the most recent ones are two birthday posts I did in 2016, one about his work at DC Comics and various independent comic companies and one with his work for Marvel Comics and two posts on Jerry Ordway who inked John Byrne on the last leg of his legendary Fantastic Four issues. The first one is a special Valentine´s Day post with the infamous issue where Alicia Masters dumped Ben for Johnny ( which went against the bro code but it was okay because that Alicia turned out to be a skrull which is a subject we will discuss in detail if I ever get to my FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH PAUL RYAN series ) and the other one about the birth of Malice who has the second best costume after the special " 4 " - shaped boobie window ( which also first appeared during the FANTASTIC FOUR run by Paul Ryan ).

Since I put artwork from different series into last year´s Alan Davis post I am returning to one of my favorite books : EXCALIBUR. Which is easier to talk about now that Disney has finally released a few Epic Collections to replace the out of print trades that those readers who missed the series or had gaps in their collection had to rely on. For all my new readers - and those old ones who might have missed it or want to refresh their memory - I posted the entire EXCALIBUR prestige format prelude THE SWORD IS DRAWN ( including a lot of original art ) and I also wrote about their part in the INFERNO CROSSOVER , a topic to which I will probably return to in the future. Anyway, as I have already written at length about my love for EXCALIBUR I can skip that and come right to the glorious Alan Davis art.
Now usually I try to avoid posting art that has been in previous posts but I am making an exception so I can include the whole sequence between Brian Braddock a.k.a. June 25th Peyo and Alex Toth
Case in point : two comic creators who are no longer with us would have had their anniversary on June the 25th - Alex Toth and Peyo - and since they both share a birthday they also shared a post in 2016 . I have to say that I read a lot more material by Peyo through his work on Natasha, Steven Strong, Johan and Peewit and his biggest success The Smurfs so he had a much bigger impact on my life ( one of the first things I learned to draw was a smurf ). Which makes it a bit strange that I still haven´t done a solo post for Peyo while I somehow assembled enough material for a black and white post for Alex Toth in 2017. I hope I can make a post on Peyo in the near future because we sometimes forget those comics that are not about super heroes or serious topics and are fun to read and full of imagination and fantastic adventures that can be enjoyed by kids and grown ups alike. New readers of the blog might want to check out my extra long post about Natascha though.
Tom DeFalco turned 69 on June the 26th and while I haven´t done a specific post on him he was the writer on a lot of my favorite comic books. He wrote one of my favorite runs on Fantastic Four with Paul Ryan ( which will become a regular feature on this blog as FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH PAUL RYAN as soon as I can find the time ), my favorite run on Thor with Ron Frenz ( during which they created the New Warriors ) especially once Eric Mastersongot to hold the hammer ( for which I already got all the material for the SOUL SHROUD SAGA lined up ) as well as on my guilty 1990s pleasure Thunderstrike. Tom also dida very enjoyable run on Spider - Man ( his first collaboration with Ron Frenz which I covered in these twoposts ) where he co - created Rose, Black Fox and Silver Sable ( longtime readers may remember that she placed third in my COMICBABE BATTLE SPIDERBABES FINALISTS ) and staying in the extended Spiderverse he wrote the magnificent Spider - Girl ( once again with Ron Frenz ) which ran for over 100 issues. Speaking of the Marvel Universe 2 he did the writing on a lot of those titles like Avengers Next ( yup, with Ron Frenz here too ), American Dream with Todd Nauck, Fantastic Five ( the first mini series with the aforementioned Paul Ryan, the second one with Ron Lim ), J2 - which was about the son of the Juggernaut - also with Ron Lim and last but not least Last Hero Standing and Last Planet Standing ( both with Pat Oliffe with whom he had started Spider - Girl ). I am a huge fan of the MC2 universe as it was a ray of sunshine during a very dark time at Marvel and I enjoyed most of these books. So there are plenty of posts where I talk about him at length and there surely´ll be more in the future.

It´s back to comic books with Christopher Priest who turns 57 and while I haven´t done a specific post for him yet I have written plenty of posts about the Black Panther and the best place to go is my post about Sal Velluto´s terrific art on Black Panther because it also includes a link to an overview of the brilliant series by Christopher Priest that I wrote back in 2012. You can find more great Sal Velluto art in the posts I did in 2016 and last month which is one of the reasons why you probably won´t see a Christopher Priest post anytime soon. Or at least not before John Byrne.
On May the 25th we had a comicbook creator trifecta starting fittingly with Sal Velluto who turned 63 since I have written the most posts for him. The first one was a lengthy post on Christopher Priest´s BLACK PANTHER run way back in 2012 followed by a quick overview of all the series Sal Velluto has worked on in 2016 ( I don´t know why it took me that long to do a follow up post ), in 2017 I covered everything I had to skip in my first post about BLACK PANTHER in a special black and white post and last year´s post was all about JUSTICE LEAGUE TASK FORCE .
We are staying with showbiz as June 30th is also the anniversary of the birth of one of Germany´s biggest entertainers, the late great Peter Alexander. And he could be quite entertaining as long as he stayed in men´s clothes. For me he always was the more charismatic, more talented and definitely more sober version of Harald Juhnke.
July 1st Dan Aykroyd 67 among whose plethora of movie credits is Trading Places where he starred opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. They also appeared together in Christmas with the Kranks. What´s even more of a coincidence is that Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the candidates of my Top Ten Movie Striptease list as is bodacious Baywatch bombshell Pamela Anderson who celebrated her 52nd birthday on July the 1st. The first one is a special Valentine´s Day post with the infamous issue where Alicia Masters dumped Ben for Johnny ( which went against the bro code but it was okay because that Alicia turned out to be a skrull which is a subject we will discuss in detail if I ever get to my FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH PAUL RYAN series ) and the other one about the birth of Malice who has the second best costume after the special " 4 " - shaped boobie window ( which also first appeared during the FANTASTIC FOUR run by Paul Ryan ).

On July the 8th Jaden Smith, son of Hollywood star Will Smith celebrated his 21st birthday and I´m sure with all the good things in his life he still curses because he was still a minor when he starred in the remake of The Karate Kidalongsideafrican - american aphroditeTaraji P Henson. You can say what you want about the effectiveness of PETA - as long as their ad campaigns manage to convince sexbombs like Taraji to show off her 38C - 28 - 37 measurements I´m okay with that. Speaking of Russ Meyer movies, one of my favorites is UP ! starring Raven De La Croix. She looks like a real life Wonder Woman and it´s a shame there never was a Wonder Woman movie with Raven in the lead role. The former blow up sex doll template practically played the role of überbusty amazonian princess in the 1984 Jim Wynorsky skin flick The LostEmpire. Meyer’s 1976 comedy thriller UP ! was co - written by Roger Ebert and contains Nazis, lesbianism, rape, buggery, a backwoods sheriff, piranha, kinky sex - and that’s just the first 10 minutes ! The movie offers a lot of very graphic sex scenes which are highly erotic, well photographed and stunningly edited. The female cast members all engage with the outdoor, sunny California countryside, but under a spell of kinetic blankness like sex machines gone wild especially Janet Wood who not only has a name made for porn movies if I ever heard one but also one of the best scenes with her on - screen partner Robert McLane who was a homosexual in real life.
I have read that homosexual actors are often used in straight porn movies because they can pound a woman for hours without risking to climax but Janet Wood doesn´t look like a woman who cares if her sex partner will squirt as long as she can milk him dry. So either she rode him like a woman possessed because she could vent all her pent up sexual frustration or she worked herself into a frenzy trying to put him on the straight path again.

The gorgeous Raven De La Croix with an exotic name and a body which can only be a true gift from the gods, stars as Margo Winchester, one of Meyer’s strongest female characters. Constantly victimized by most men, yet refusing to play the victim, spitting out her lines in a Mae West - type drawl, Raven De La Croix and her bountiful figure totally steal the movie.
Totally nude and usually running around outdoors for most of the film, De La Croix is incredibly sexy and funny. She had done lots of modeling by 1976 and appeared in UP! after coming to terms with the fact that she had to perform nude scenes and graphic sex scenes. According to De La Croix, she really went all out for this film, destroying her feet while running through the desert, almost sacrificing her life during the drowning / rape scene, and unknowingly being body doubled during some of the more questionable sex scenes ( I wonder where they found that body double ).
Sadly Debbe Dunning who turned 52 on July the 11th never starred in a Russ Meyer movie despite having the body for it. Nevertheless I cast the sexbomb who is best known for her role of Tool Time girl Heidi on the hit show Home Improvement ( based on the stand up routine of Tim Allen ) in my JLA Redux post as Knockout and she is also a top contender for the Top Ten Jessica Rabbit Lookalike Babes if I ever get around to write that.
I haven´t gotten around to do a full post on her and Home Improvement of which I have seasons six and seven on my to watch pile and I admit I only got them because of Debbe Dunning´s incredible muscle control .

Another highlight of Tom Palmer´s career was inking Gene Colan on such classic Bronze Age milestones like Daredevil, Doctor Strangeor The Tomb of Draculaso you might want to check out the post I wrote when he passed away in 2011 or the Gene Colan homage post I did in 2016.
